Building Resilient Livelihoods and Advancing Climate Justice
Tubibe Amahoro works to improve the socio-economic conditions of rural communities while promoting environmental protection and climate justice. Our approach recognizes the strong link between sustainable livelihoods, environmental stewardship and the realization of human rights.
Why We Do This
Rural communities in Rwanda particularly women farmers and vulnerable households are highly exposed to climate change, environmental degradation and economic insecurity. This pillar contributes to national and global priorities, including:
- Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
- Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13: Climate Action
- National climate resilience and green growth strategies
Strengthening rural livelihoods while protecting natural resources is essential for long-term community resilience.
Our Approach
Tubibe Amahoro applies a community-driven and rights-based approach that places local people at the center of environmental and livelihood solutions. A key entry point is the establishment and strengthening of Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs), particularly among women’s cooperatives and rural groups.
Through VSLAs and community structures, we promote:
- Collective saving and access to finance
- Skills development through practical trainings
- Environmental awareness and behavior change
- Social cohesion and mutual support
This approach strengthens economic resilience while enabling communities to invest in sustainable practices.
What We Do
- Promote climate-resilient and sustainable agriculture practices
- Support rural women farmers and cooperatives with improved seeds and technical training
- Facilitate access to savings and credit through VSLAs
- Promote tree planting and reforestation with women’s cooperatives and community groups to combat deforestation and soil erosion
- Promote the use of improved cook stoves to reduce firewood consumption, deforestation, and carbon emissions
- Raise community awareness on environmental protection, climate justice, and sustainable natural resource management
Climate Action Innovation
Through integrated initiatives such as improved cook stoves and community-led tree planting, Tubibe Amahoro enables communities to become active agents of climate action. These interventions reduce emissions, restore ecosystems, improve household health and strengthen sustainable livelihoods.

Currently Implementing
Tubibe Amahoro is currently implementing Public Policy Information Monitoring and Advocacy (PPIMA) project with support from Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA). The project is being implemented in Ngororero, Rutsiro, Nyamagabe and Nyaruguru districts, focusing on empowering citizens to engage in public policy processes, monitor service delivery and strengthen dialogue with local authorities.
Cross-Cutting Themes Integration
Across all its programmatic pillars, Tubibe Amahoro integrates cross-cutting themes including Youth Empowerment, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), ICT Inclusion, and the Inclusion of People with Disabilities. These themes are mainstreamed throughout project design, implementation, monitoring, and learning processes to ensure inclusive participation, equity, accountability, and sustainable impact for all community members, particularly vulnerable and marginalized groups.
